Tomorrow's Show & Other News

Tomorrow will be a show unlike any you've heard before, as often I don't play much metal. To get in the mood for Halloween the next day, I'll have a playlist of my favorite black metal for the full hour. Shows like this will be few and far between so if you're a fan of BM, be sure to listen in!

I've had a lot of friends come in the past few weeks co-hosting the show with me, including Joser, Luigi, Tyler of tha Unit and Justin with the IIIKD demo track. Be sure to catch up on all the old shows in the archive

Later this week I will be posting a teaser flyer for the long-awaited ISSUE #1 of EXACT CHANGE FANZINE. I'll be giving a sneak peak at some of the content and interviews included.

On a related note, the EXACT CHANGE DISTRO is winding down for now. There just isn't a high enough demand for another distro in my area, I don't travel enough to make it worth while and I don't have time to open a webstore. I've got one copy each of the following records for anyone interested in mail order or pick up if you're in the area.

BACK TO BACK - FLESH AND BONE 7" (Lockin Out) - $5
VIOLENCE TO FADE - TUG OF WAR 7" (Life to Live) - $5
SIDE BY SIDE - YOU'RE ONLY YOUNG ONCE 12" (Revelation) - $12
SUPERTOUCH - THE EARTH IS FLAT 12" (Revelation) - $12
UP FRONT - SPIRIT 12" (Smorgasbord) - $12

Saigon - Annihilation 7"

I was lucky enough to have Hanson send me the mp3's of this record after our phone interview. One song from this 7" was played on last weeks show, so now you can check out the rest. Here is a small blurb of how Hanson described Saigon...

"The band Saigon formed in Orange County, California sometime late in 1980 or early 1981 and played the circuit throughout southern California until 1982. The band members were: Todd A. Hall – Vocals; Jessie Bingaman – Guitar; Adam Maples (aka. Adam Bomb) – Drums; Eddie Wayne – Bass.

In 1981, Saigon released its only record as an EP on their own label, WWIII Records(...) The band was influenced by many early New York and California punk bands and Todd styled his live performances after Iggy Pop. They played with other local bands such as Christian Death, Lost Cause, the Lewd, Hari-Kari, the Dischords and Modern Warfare, but even played with punk legends such as the Misfits(...) In 1982, Saigon disbanded when Adam and Eddie made the move to record and tour as permanent members of the band Legal Weapon(...)

All songs copyrighted 1981 by Saigon."

You can read more about Saigon via Hanson's YouTube channel, specifically here.

ECR 001 - With Increase "Live on Bulls Radio" Cassette

The labels first release is officially completed. With Increase came in to the Exact Change Radio show at the Bulls Radio studio on Thursday 6/26/2014 and recorded a few live tracks followed by an interview. After the show we were chatting and decided to put out the session on this tape. Recommended for fans of early Tooth & Nail bands such as Strongarm, Focal Point and, my personal favorite, Focused.

First run limited to 50 copies, with some lemon lime inserts keepin' it fresh. The band is selling the yellow copies with them on their current tour and the green inserts are a label exclusive. If you would like a copy, either go see With Increase on tour and pick one up or shoot me an e-mail at garrettxstrobel@gmail.com. Tapes are $3 in person and $5 post paid in the USA (just send the money to my PayPal account via the aforementioned e-mail address). Click on the photo below to see the dates of With Increase's tour.

For the full, free audio of the radio set and interview, go here. Also be sure to pick up Exact Change Fanzine numero uno, which will contain more stories and pictures from the radio set!

Awake! - Beliefs 7"

Another record I picked up at Planet Retro in St. Pete of another Brandon hardcore band. Signed by two of the dudes on the back and some really great photos inside the 5 paneled insert that I included in the download. This record was recommended to me by my pal Jullian B., who did a really great write up a few years back in his zine about Awake! that I might take the time to scan and upload later.

Four tracks of pretty interesting melodic hardcore straight outta 1989 that have singing, shouting, and even a rap part. The record itself was, again, in pretty rough condition, so quite a few noticeable pops in the quieter parts... did the best I could to fix the pops without damaging the audio. If you have better quality rips of this record let me know because I can't find it in full anywhere else.

The copy I own also seems to be a second pressing as it is pressed on black vinyl and neither TPOS or Victory records are credited. A few scans of that pressing are available on discogs.

Again, many thanks to Matt D. for helping me rip the audio from this and the next few records I'll be posting.
